One last update for the year – here is some info on Don’s first ever book due in 2008 from Black Inc.
Shots: A Memoir
Don Walker
Black Inc. – PB – $29.95 – 2008
All rights: Black Inc.
This extraordinary memoir begins with Don Walker’s early life in rural NSW and goes up to the late ’80s. In mesmerising prose, he evokes childhood recollections, wild times in the ’70s, life on the road and in the Cross, music-making and much more.
Shots is a stunningly original book, a set of word pictures – ‘shots’ – that
conjure up the lowlife and backroads of Australia.
The book is not an autobiography, more a collection of stories. If you have been checking Don’s official site you would have read several of them already.

From undercover.com.au - Normie Rowe Records New Don Walker Song
by Paul Cashmere -
Australian rock and roll star Normie Rowe will be the voice of a new Don Walker song titled 'Poor Boy'.
"It is a series of songs Don gave me the demos for," Normie tells Undercover News.
Walker, the legendary songwriter and keyboard player from Cold Chisel, has written for numerous artists over the years including country music star Slim Dusty.
"He is a hell of a writer," says Normie. "He has a handle on Australian urban subjects and their delivery".
Normie will release the song on his next album in 2007.
He is also adding another unreleased Walker song 'Long Black Limousine' into his live set.

The long awaited Don Walker album, "Cutting Back" will be released on the 8th July 2006! The album will be released via Warner Music. I don't have a link to pre order it yet, but as soon as I have it you'll know about. I do know this is going to be a ripper album full of classic Walker tunes! If you've been visiting Don's official site you would have heard a fair amount of material from Cutting Back. If you havent been to the official site, keep checking in every Tuesday/Wednesday. A new story from Don and a variety of old, new and rare songs turn up on the play list each week. I dont know exactly which songs have made the final cut but based on the gear on his site, it sounds like the album will be a great mix of rock, blues and country Don Walker style. Don will be touring in July and August to promote the album, more on that later! If you havent been to a Don gig or brought a DW album, now is a great time to jump on board and get involved. Keep checking the Cutting Back thread for updates and get involved on the forum. Can't wait for the album and tour! Jerome

Great news for Canadian and US fans - The Tex, Don and Charlie short film directed by Karen Borger is being shown in Canada! The All Is Forgiven film is being shown as part of the Australian Film Weekend, February 10 to 12, 2006 at Isabel Bader Theatre, 93 Charles St. West (Museum Subway Stn), Toronto Ontario CANADA. The film is being shown after The Proposition, (written by Nick Cave) on Saturday February 11. Universal Music informs me that free samplers of the All Is Forgiven album will be available at the shows. So if you haven’t brought the album and you’re keen to see the film, get out there if you can! In addition you’ll get to see some great Aussie films (with the exception of Josh Jarman). Here is the full program
Tex, Don and Charlie have also been nominated for a Telstra Bigpond AMP awards. As the Telstra website states “AMP stands for Australian Music Prize, a peer-voted award for the best local album of the year. Music journalists, retailers and musicians judged these eight albums as the very best of 2005. Never mind how many units they shifted. Forget who had the best PR campaign. The AMP 2005 rewards quality, not sales or airplay.
The winner will be announced at The AMP 2005 Winner's Event, to be held in Sydney on Wednesday 8th March, and will receive a cheque for $25,000.” Let’s hope TDC takes home the $25 large! You can visit the AMP site and email them with your reason why TDC should win. If you’re looking at hiring a DVD before the footy season starts, check out Little Fish. There is a nice behind the scenes short film about Flame Trees with great comments from Cate Blanchett with the Sacred Heart School Cabramatta hard at work. A big thank you to Michele! Cheers Jerome

The band members from the All Is Forgiven album joining Tex, Don and Charlie on their 2005 tour are Shane Walsh on double bass and Garrett Costigan on pedal steel. Drummer Jim Walsh has touring commitments with his band
The Dirty Three , so the legendary Mick Harvey (from the Birthday Party, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds) will be playing drums for TDC. Mick will also be one of the TDC support acts on the upcoming tour. The other act is The Darling Downs, which comprises Ron Peno (from Died Pretty) on vocals and Kim Salmon (Scientists, Beasts of Bourbon, Surrealists) on guitar. Kim also played Jews Harp on the Sad But True album. For the full list of when Mick Harvey and The Darling Downs will be supporting TDC check out the updated gig list All Is Forgiven 2005 Tour . Both support acts have new albums out – Mick has covered songs by Don (Louise) and Kim (Come On Spring) on his new album
One Man’s Treasure , so hopefully there will be some jams between the three acts when they get together. The Darling Downs new album is How Can I Forget This Heart Of Mine?
And you can read about both acts
Here
I urge you to pick up these albums ASAP or at the gigs, they are fantastic pieces of work. I rate them very highly and I have been playing both of them and All is Forgiven regularly over the past month. For those of you who get to see all three acts you are for a great night of bittersweet blues/country drinking music the likes of which you won’t forget! Bring on Nov 20! cheers Jerome PS Don’t forget – the Last Stand is out on DVD and CD in the next few days!

Jesse McLallen has done a great job in building the Official Don Walker site http://donwalker.com.au/ . Make sure you book mark this one.
The functions of this new site are complimentary to mrdwalker.net. There are no news, history, photos, lyrics, forum features etc. It has four songs in MP3 form for streaming and a piece of writing. The four songs and written content will be changed at least once a week from now on. Keep checking in on the site, there will be something new to read and listen to on a regular basis. Some of the gear will be from Don's private collection, such as the live version of Harry, recorded with Jeff Lang at the Basement in Sydney some years ago, that's up there now. This is a great time to be supporting Don, so keep it up people and check out http://donwalker.com.au/

Tex Perkins has been interviewed in Melbourne’s Age newspaper to promote the Beasts of Bourbon’s upcoming shows and live album "Low Life". This is what Tex had to say about All Is Forgiven:
“Perkins and Owens will then head to London to hook up with Don Walker for some Tex, Don and Charlie shows in the lead-up to the release of their new album, All Is Forgiven, for which Melbourne should see shows in October "And Jo, it's a f---in' cracker!" says Perkins.
"Very proud of it. I'm very proud of both releases. Easily the best work I've done for a while. I don't usually talk my crap up, maybe I'm delusional, but I think it's on the cards."
Fantastic news for Don/Chisel fans who are hanging to see one of the Chisels. Bring on Europe! Cheers Jerome

As previously mentioned, Don Walker has been interviewed for Songwriters Speak, the first book dedicated to the great songwriters of Australia and New Zealand from the last fifty years,
written by Debbie Kruger.
Debbie informs me that Don's interview covers his songwriting across his career - Chisel,
Catfish, Tex Don & Charlie and the writing he has done in country
music for and with the likes of Slim Dusty, Adam Brand, Jimmy Little
and Troy Cassar-Daley.
As Don very rarely gives interviews, this is a must for DW fans.
The interview runs over 21 pages in the book (well over 10,000 words).
It's a special one and among Debbie’s favourites in the book.
There is also a Songwriters Speak CD which features Cold Chisel’s “Saturday Night”, you can purchase the CD and copies of Songwriters Speak from the Songwriters Speak website. Debbie will be signing each copy ordered from the site.
Don’t forget to check out the mrdwalker.net forum! The track list for All is Forgiven and a brief interview with Paul Kelly has just been added to the board. Cheers Jerome

Tex Perkins is playing in Adelaide this Saturday and has been interviewed by Robert Dunstan in Rip It Up Magazine. This is what Tex had to say about the upcoming Tex, Don and Charlie album:
Tex had been up at Byron Bay performing with Tex Don & Charlie, who are in the process of recording a new album.
“We’ve already done it and we’ll mix it as soon as I’ve got back from Adelaide,” Tex explained.
“I’d read on the world wide web that it might be a double album.
“No, that’s just wishful thinking” Tex said. “So don’t believe everything you read on the internet. We recorded 18 songs but knew we were always going to whittle them down to about 14 for an album. I don’t think there’s any real need for us to do a double album. It’s all originals because there’s no shortage of songwriters. Don [Walker] had a whole backlog of stuff that we went through. And, over the last couple of years, I’ve been going round to everybody and anybody I know asking them for songs. I’ve been asking if they’ve got any classics under their bed. But the only thing that turned up was a song by Paul Kelly.”
Is it one that Paul has also recorded?
“Not as far as I know,” Tex said. “I actually asked Peter Luscombe [Kelly’s drummer] and he knew of the song but didn’t think Paul had ever recorded it.”
It seems a long time since there was any new Tex, Don & Charlie offerings.
“It’s been 11 years since Sad But True,” Tex stated. “It’s actually 12 because it was late in ’93 it came out.”
Tex reckons that his next ‘solo’ album will go under the banner of Dark Horses.
“I don’t think it’ll be Tex Perkins & The Dark Horses anymore,” he said. “It’ll just be a Dark Horses album because my solo stuff is now getting taken care of by Tex, Don & Charlie. Even the last album, Sweet Nothings, was really supposed to be a Dark Horses record.”
You can read the whole interview on the forum - Tex in Adelaide

March has been a very busy time for the Tex, Don and Charlie Trio. Plenty of work is going into the project which included eighteen songs being recorded between the 14th and 19th of March. The band then put in two days rehearsal for their performance at the Byron Bay Blues Festival.
The tracks are being recorded at Phil Punch’s studio in Sydney. Phil has been involved with Tex in the Beasts of Bourbon and on Don’s last album We’re All Gunna Die. Jim White from The Dirty Three is playing drums on the new album.
At the moment, the Tex, Don and Charlie album is not connected to any label – nor is the Don Walker solo album. The word is that Don will be working on the solo album after Easter. Expect to see some gigs around Sydney soon (hooray!) in the next few months as the DW band work in a new set.
As well as touring with Ian Moss and assisting Cold Chisel and Don Walker, David Blight has his own band ready to go out on the road soon.
They’re called The Flyers, they are based in Adelaide and are mastering their CD at the moment. The other band members are David Small (Phil’s brother) and Rob Reilly (Rose Tattoo).
The Flyers are a blues based band that sounds nothing like Chisel or the Tatts. David is also planning to set up a website for The Flyers.
I know there are plenty of Blighty fans out there, so please get behind the Flyers CD when it comes out and get along to their shows.
