DON WALKER & BAND - SONGS LIVE. AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2019
From Cold Chisel to Catfish to Tex, Don and Charlie to his solo work and many writing collaborations, these are the collected lyrics of Don Walker, one of Australia's greatest songwriters.
On the back of the releasing the lyric book Songs on July 1, Don Walker and band will take it to the road in August and September 2019.
For over forty years he has written songs that capture what it is to be Australian. Collected here, for the first time, are lyrics from his extensive career" from 'Khe Sanh' to 'Flame Trees', 'Looking Forward Looking Back' to 'Harry Was a Bad Bugger', Walker's words are poetic, moving and incisive.
These words live on the page, with or without the memory of music.
Songs will be released via Black Inc. on Monday, July1, 2019,and will available in Hardback. Interspersed with autobiographical sketches and anecdotes, and with an exclusive introduction by Jimmy Barnes, Songs is a must-have for fans of Walker's brilliant, razor-sharp storytelling.
Also released on the same day will be the widely applauded Shots on Hardback for the first time. His stories written on the pages of the book lie silent, but as you read them they come to life.
"I can still hear the melodies but while I read the book, the music seems to fade into the background and new melodies, new meanings present themselves" - Jimmy Barnes
"His lyrics are lean, clear-eyed, love-thirsty and lonesome. A bulls-eye straight to the human heart." - Paul Kelly
"Don's words are truly a thing of wonder." - Peter Garrett

BLACKTOP VINYL BOX SET OF ENTIRE SOLO CATALOGUE
6 ALBUMS, 5 ON VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME OUT
MARCH 23 & APRIL 2018 TOUR
Don Walker is regarded as one of Australia's best songwriters and his songs have been mapping Australia, from Kings Cross to regional towns and the spaces between, for more than thirty years, through solo albums and shows, with Catfish, three acclaimed albums with Tex, Don and Charlie and of course with one of Austrailia's finest ever bands Cold Chisel.
On March 23, 2018, for the first time, Don's entire back catalogue - We're All Gunna Die, Cutting Back, Hully Gully, Live At The Caravan plus both Catfish albums, Unlimited Address & Ruby - are being gathered in the one box set - Blacktop. Every album has been remastered by Don Bartley with one simple instruction from Don: "Please cut as loud as possible".
Each album will also be available separately. Only the first Catfish album, 1988's Unlimited Address, has been available on vinyl before. And receiving a physical release for the first time is Live At The Caravan, which was previously a digital-only release in 2014.
"It's a way of reviewing the whole catalogue," Don says of the box set, "without doing a best-of."
As for the title, he wryly explains: "It was a choice between Blacktop and Hits. I was advised that Blacktop was more appropriate."
To celebrate the releases Don and The Suave Fucks will head to the road in April taking in shows in Newcastle, Sydney, Bowral, Adelaide, Bellingen, Melbourne and Mullumbimby.
Tickets for all shows are on sale now.

TEX, DON & CHARLIE TO RELEASE THEIR THIRD STUDIO ALBUM, YOU DON'T KNOW LONELY ON JUNE 30. MASSIVE NATIONAL TWENTY SIX DATE TOUR AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER 2017.
Introducing the sublime, You Don't Know Lonely, a gripping collection of 12 evocative stories in song from the masters of the form, Tex, Don and Charlie. More than a decade has passed since the trio's last album, 2005's All Is Forgiven and their spectacular 1993 debut Sad But True, itself widely regarded as one of the great Australian albums.
Set for release on June 30, the album ushers in a long-awaited Tex, Don and Charlie national tour. The tour will be the band's first in twelve years, kicking off at the end of August and running all through September. Covering a vast expanse, the tour takes in capital cities Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Darwin as well as regional towns Meeniyan, Bendigo, Newcastle, Bellingen, Bangalow, Cairns and Bunbury. Fans can expect the new songs in all their live glory, augmented by favourites from Sad But True and All Is Forgiven.
The album's lead track, Tex's A Man In Conflict With Nature, is darkly hilarious - sketching the kind of louche, uninhibited character your grandmother warned you against: the layabout who, after a winning tip at the dogs, celebrates with "three hookers and some sushi".
The song Here's As Good As Anywhere is an older, wiser, more calibrated view of the world that's on offer, inspiring the album's title: "You don't know lonely/Till you've looked back down the road/From one more town/Knowing she's no longer there/And here's as good as anywhere."
"It's just a little movie about hitch-hiking into a town, and there's clearly a regretted girl, which we all have; and in this case, there's no going back" Don Walker says.
For Charlie, the process of making a record with this trio has a consistency, the decade-long break between each one meaning that "we don't do this like we do other things; when we come around to doing this we have a particular focus on the sound of Tex, Don and Charlie, on the sensation of it". As he says, it's obvious when a song "fits into the flowing robes of Tex, Don and Charlie".
